A little about us.

(From left to right: Davis, Jennifer, Kona)

J Walker Ranch specializes in the sale of Tennessee Walkers and Spotted Saddle Horses for trail and pleasure riding.  J Walker Ranch is owned and operated by Jennifer Johnson,  a long time lover of the breed and advocate for the natural Tennessee Walker.  Jennifer has introduced hundreds of TWH's and SSH's to West Coast horse owners and has helped spread the word of the amazing qualities and true versatility of the breed . Jennifer views this operation as a true labor of love.

J Walker Ranch is nestled in the lush wine country of Temecula, with miles of beautiful trails and story book views.  We are easy to find with great freeway access (see our map in "contact us").

 Why are we the best?

J Walker Ranch takes great pride in hand selecting quality horses from Tennessee, Utah, Kentucky and Alabama that have been carefully evaluated and screened to ensure excellent health, gentle dispositions and very smooth gaits.  Unlike others who sell horses, Jennifer spends a great deal of time, searching the country side for those special horses that she is proud to bring out to California and represent to her precious customers.  Jennifer travels far and wide, has incredible contacts and relationships with family and friends who reside in Tennessee and who have a talent for finding horses good enough to be called J Walker Ranch horses.  Years of cultivating these relationships have made J Walker Ranch the premiere gaited horse barn and has helped to achieve the fantastic reputation that J Walker Ranch carries proudly.

While in our care,  all of our horses are ridden extensively on trail and in the arena where we continue their training using gentle, yet effective techniques.  All horses are up to date on vaccinations, worming, floating and shoeing.  J Walker Ranch wants our new horse owners to be thrilled with the JWR horse they purchase and we will assist you in any way possible to ensure your satisfaction.  Let J Walker Ranch match you up with the horse of your dreams... we have done that successfully hundreds of times!

J Walker Ranch wants you to remember.....

...... horses are living, breathing , thinking creatures and not machines that you can turn on and off.  They are very sensitive and emotional animals who can react a variety of ways to many different situations.... Horses can also be unpredictable.... they will feel good, they can feel bad.. they will be happy and sometimes they can be sad... they can love some people and not others... they can be brave most of the time and frightened once in a while too... a horse can be willing to work, but can also be lazy at times...

Horses are not indestructible and they are not without intelligence.  They have a language that is all their own and it's not English, Spanish, French or any other human dialect.  Horse language is unique, however, very clear and easily understood only when you invest the time and energy into learning what they have to teach.  It's up to you to obtain the appropriate knowledge and skills necessary to communicate clearly with your companion, not the other way around.

Horse owners should never attempt to 'humanize' the horse and expect it to understand a language that is completely alien to them because of the way in which they process information.  This leads to frustration and dissatisfaction for both horse and rider... often times, the blame is placed solely on the horse, when, in fact, it is the rider's lack of understanding on how to communicate properly with the horse.  Perhaps the horse was doing exactly what he thought the rider was asking?  Maybe he was trying his very best to respond to a jumble of cues all at once?  Hmmmmm?

Be realistic with your expectations, learn to speak and understand your horse's language clearly, be patient and understanding, never treat your horse like a machine....  Only then will you enjoy this fantastic animal and the beauty of a true and satisfying relationship with your horse.  As in all relationships, you've got to invest the time and energy necessary to make it work.  Take the time and you will be rewarded with the bond of a lifetime!
